I'm on fuego!

Not a new store, but new to me.
Fuego 718 carries goodies and treasures from around the world. The owner travels everywhere from Mexico to Cambodia for all sorts of hand crafted fun. Great place for gift giving. I am a big fan of anything Day of the Dead, but they also have beautiful patchwork stuffed animals and decoupage flasks. Check it out.

Pip-Squeak Chapeau Etc.

You must must look at their website and/or go to their store. Just beautifully easy clothing and accessories accompanied by fun little items (like the great clay waffles). The space is lovely and airy, as are the clothes. Check out their site and blog www.pip-squeakchapeau.com

while there........
I also ran into Greenpoint based cake master and author, Sara Magid. I recognized her from her blog and am sure that she thought that I was a crazy person when I was gushing about her cakes, but if you have not heard of her, check out her site www.sarahmagid.com/. I am in love with her gold dusted interpretation of twinkies.

Amazing day in Greenpoint with my friend Dominga

Started with a quick stop by the Peter Pan Donut Shop for some coffee and yummies. It is the cutest cutest little place. The donuts are old fashioned and amazing.

Made it by Le Grenier Antiques and Housewares (www.legrenierny.com). It was my first time there and I cannot wait to go back. In addition to beautiful antiques and curiosities, they also carry some really great pillows and Austin Press Stationary (which I love www.austin-press.com)
No trip to Greenpoint is complete without a trip to Word. They do a really amazing job editing their book selection, but I am always drawn to the children's section . They carry so many of my favorite books from growing up, but they also showcase some beautifully illustrated new ones that I can't wait to give as gifts to friends with wee ones.

baby goat...the gift that keeps on giving

need a gift for the person who has everything???
why not a pig, some honey bees, or a share of a cow in their honor?
Go to http://www.heifer.org/ and you can buy livestock etc. for families around the world.
Some of you on my feed still have to feign surprise when you get your llama certificate.

I love you, janeane garofalo

just caught her 1996 standup act on TV and while I have seen it before, it was just a nice little reminder of how awesome she is. I know it is not her gig, but aside from being wicked smart, i also find her to be very pretty. Made me miss the 90s a little....reality bites, my lunch box purse and liz phair. :)

Jane Birkin

there is very little about her wardrobe in the 60s that seems dated, even now.
just lovely and effortless.
big sigh....

hey yo yo...best etsy store ever

I am sucker for anything nostalgic and I am so excited to have found this shop on etsy.
It has all of the best childhood party trimmings. I can't wait to order some for my next party.

Just a friendly reminder of how fun and lovely the KIOSK store is. I had some small gifts to get and it really us suck a little treasure trove.  I left with little goodies for friends and a few for myself such as some lavender oil to spray on towels and such. If you are not in the New York area, check out the website http://kioskkiosk.com/, if you are in the area, you must go.

Fall is upon us...do something spooky

Go visit Sleepy Hollow. We did last weekend. You can tour Washington Irving's home and grave (we couldn't find the grave...ask for directions...but the cemetery is incredibly old and wonderfully creepy)

Girls

It's getting chilly

This weather makes me wish I had Ali MacGraw's wardrobe from Love Story

real music comes to Williamsburg

I was lucky enough to go to the Langhorne Slim concert last night.  Best time I have had at a show in ages. Not one bad song. Great performer, great band. No tricks, no elctro, just honest, great music.

Georgia O'Keeffe being nice and kind at the Whitney

Growing up in the southwest, you would see a lot of Georgia O'keeffe paintings and O'keeffe inspired work, but they are usually of skulls and flowers. While I could appreciate their relevance and beauty, I was never a huge fan. This was more or less what I was expecting to see when I went to her new show at the Whitney. However, I was surprised to see that the show really focuses on her often over looked abstractions and loved it. Put her life's work in a new light for me. Go check it out.

cockoo cachoo

Not sure what sort of party Chris Benz had in mind for the girl who is wearing this amazing shrug, but where ever it is, I want to go. It is fantastic and I love the way it sits with the neutrals here.

my muse my hope

Clearly I am not the first to hop on this band wagon since she is on the cover of Pop and Love, but I am obsessed with Tavi. I have always feared what technology and over exposure to pop culture will do to America's youth, but Tavi Gevinson has not only given me hope, but has also become my new favorite fashion icon. I will never be as cool as this 13 year old girl from Chicago and I am totally fine with that. She has an amazing sense of reference and her style is insane for anyone of any age. Please do yourself a favor and check out her blog.

She has great shots of herself styled chicly as possible. My muse, I adore you.

great source of inspiration

The Condé Nast online store is pretty incredible. They have a huge archive of beautiful images and illustrations for purchase. I am especially in love with many of the old images from House and Garden.
